When you want to call on the equipment's services, you will use the CSTAFunctions interface, which will generally call CSTA Call Control Services. The CSTAFunctions interface exists to remove the implementation specific idiosyncrasies between the different PBXs, asterisk (soon) and freeswitch (not soon).

There is a service tools package for connecting to asterisk and using the asterisk manager API.
